This visa type is suitable for any person outside Australia who has children in Australia who are Australian citizens or Permanent Residents. There are several requirements that applicants must meet in order to be considered for this type of Parent Visa.
The applicant must meet the Balance of Family Test.
• At least half of the applicant’s children settled in Australia..
OR
• The applicant has more children settled in Australia that any single overseas country.
All children (including step children and adopted children) will be included in the Balance of Family Test.
The applicant must be outside Australia at the time the visa is granted.
The applicant can be sponsored by a settled child, child’s spouse or guardian.
There is a mandatory assurance of support bond and health charge to be paid.
Permanent Visa Entitlements
Permanent resident visa holders have the right to live and work in Australia. As a permanent resident visa holder, you are entitled to receive public health care (Medicare).
Generally as a newly arrived resident you are required to wait for two-years (2 years) before you could receive any social security payments.
Temporary Visa Entitlements
As a temporary resident visa holder, you will generally not be entitled to receive public health care (Medicare) or any other social security benefits.
Parent Visas – Visa Requirements – Contributory Parent
This visa type is suitable for any person either inside or outside Australia who have children in Australia who are Australian citizens or Permanent Residents and are willing to contribute an extra application fee to cover possible health costs.
The applicant must be willing to contribute an extra application fee of approximately AU$42,220.
The applicant must meet the Balance of Family Test.
• At least half of the applicant’s children settled in Australia.

• The applicant has more children settled in Australia that any single overseas country.
All children (including step children and adopted children) will be included in the Balance of Family Test.
The applicant can be sponsored by a settled child, child’s spouse or guardian.

Parent Visas – Visa Requirements – Aged Parent
This visa type is suitable for any person either inside or outside Australia who is old enough to be granted an Australian aged pension and who has children in Australia who are Australian citizens or Permanent Residents. There are several requirements that applicants must meet in order to be considered for an Aged Parent Visa:
The applicant must be ‘aged’, that is old enough to receive an aged pension.
• In Australia, this requires the visa applicant to be aged at least 65 years of age (the minimum age does vary slightly for women depending on the persons date of birth).
The applicant must meet the Balance of Family Test.
• At least half of the applicant’s children settled in Australia.
OR
• The applicant has more children settled in Australia that any single overseas country.
